These old net curtains were given to me by a friend. I cut them into yarn and crocheted this bag, adding brown raffia, metallic threads and sequin yarn for a little shimmer.

The handles are made from milk bottles, wrapped only in brown raffia, and I added a magnetic closure.

I love seeing what everyday materials can become. This one carries a little friendship too.

Reimagined Weave Bag

This one-of-a-kind bag began with disposable plastic tablecloths, cut into yarn and crocheted by hand into a distinctive black weave, then reinforced with reclaimed cardboard. Its sculptural circular handles were formed from cardboard and papier-mâché, while raffia finishing and a decorative charm made with a bamboo offcut and recycled-can beads complete the piece. Patiently crafted and carefully finished, it reflects the studio’s vision: discovering beauty, character and new possibilities in overlooked materials.

Gilded Tide Shell Bag

One sculptural bag, two distinct expressions. Turn it towards the navy, bead-detailed face for a playful contemporary mood, or reveal the richly textured black and gold side for an elegant evening feel.

The Gilded Tide Shell Bag began with three garments that had become worn and were reaching the end of their useful lives: my youngest son’s former PE trousers; the bottom section of his PE shirt, reimagined as the sculptural handles; and my second-youngest son’s black T-shirt. The fabrics were cut into textile yarn and transformed through crochet and macramé-inspired knotting, with the handles wrapped by hand in raffia and metallic yarn. Beads bring character to the navy face, while metallic threads lend the opposite side its evening glow—preserving the memories held within each garment while giving them a beautiful new route.

The Gilded Gatherings Bag brings together yarn made from disposable tablecloths used at my son’s birthday and fabric yarn from a favourite navy dress that had become torn beyond wear. Its structured cardboard form is lined with an old hijab, with internal pockets made from the fused plastic bag in which I received a present from a friend. The hand-wrapped handles begin with a family breakfast milk bottle, while gold thread, chain and fittings give the gathered memories an elegant new route.
